Smithsburg carnival gets under way Aug. 5

The Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co. carnival will be held Monday, Aug. 5, to Saturday, Aug. 10.

There will be new rides and amusements by Sherwood Amusements.

Tickets to ride all night cost $12 in advance and $20 at the gate.

Tickets can be purchased at AC&T in Smithsburg, Debbie’s Soft Serve, H&M Hair Salon, Total Lube, Cavetown Liquors, Ace Hardware, Phil and Jerry’s Meats and More, Susquehanna Bank, Smithsburg branch, Smithsburg Market, Skeeter’s Gun Shop, Dixie Eatery, First Impressions Hair Salon, Rocky’s Pizza in Smithsburg, Food Lion in Smithsburg and First United Bank and Trust of Smithsburg.

Concert series

Arrow Trio will perform Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Pen Mar Park as the summer music series continues.

Bluegrass concert

C.B. Pickers will perform a bluegrass concert Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Red Run Park in Waynesboro, Pa.

Drip irrigation workshop planned

Washington County Master Gardener Will Godwin will hold a free workshop on drip irrigation Saturday, July 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. 

Participants will learn how to install drip irrigation to water plant beds and containers without additional plumbing or electrical connections.

Tools and practice parts will be provided.  

The class is free and will be held rain or shine. Park in the north lot and meet in the lobby.
