Rural ministry conference set for Wednesday and Thursday in Hagerstown

The Delaware–Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will host its inaugural Celebrating Rural Ministry Conference Wednesday and Thursday at the Ramada Plaza Hotel-Hagerstown.

Celebrating Rural Ministry is a new initiative of the Delaware–Maryland Synod to get rural church leaders talking about the issues facing their ministry, and how the church can assist in the mission of the gospel in the rural setting.

The keynote speaker is the Rev. Gordon Lathrop, pastor, seminary teacher and writer. 

Workshops include:

  • People of the Land — Learning the language of the rural community
  • Establishing community outreach programs in rural settings
  • Nurturing joy in rural ministry
  • Conflict management
  • Evangelical Lutheran Church Mission in Appalachia — sharing ideas and resources for those serving in Appalachian areas
  • Missional options for rural congregations
  • Website design and helpful technology innovations for the rural church

More than 50 attendees are expected from Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C.
