July 07, 2013

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A 66-year-old Reading, Pa., man was in critical condition Sunday morning at the York, Pa., trauma center after he was struck in the parking lot of the Chambersburg-area Lowe’s Home Improvement Center on Saturday and his head hit the pavement, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

State police have not released the name of the victim, Trooper Justin Long said.

Alonzo John Weeks, 29, of Chambersburg, was charged with aggravated assault, according to a news release from the state police.

Weeks was being held, in lieu of $100,000 bond, at the Franklin County Prison on Sunday morning, officials said.

The victim was struck in the face and immediately became unconscious and fell to the pavement, where he struck the back of his head, according to the news release.

Long said Weeks thought the victim was harassing his sister. The Reading man and Weeks’ sister had been conversing, but whether harassment was involved is still being investigated, Long said.

The incident occurred at about 5:15 p.m. Saturday in the Lowe’s parking lot at 1600 Lincoln Way East in Guilford, east of Chambersburg, according to the news release.
