Martinsburg man charged with attempting to rob Patterson's Drug Store

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man was charged Friday following an attempted robbery at a Martinsburg drugstore, according to a news release from the Martinsburg Police Department.

Shawn Taylor Wasson, 33, was charged with attempted robbery following the incident at Patterson’s Drug Store at 134 S. Queen St., police said.

The attempted robbery was reported Friday at about 7:30 p.m.

A drugstore employee said a man who was lingering in the store attempted to walk behind the pharmaceutical counter, according to the release. The employee stopped the man, police said.

The man reached into his waistband and stated that he was robbing the drugstore, police said. The man then removed his hand from his waistband, but he did not have a weapon, police said.

The man told the pharmacist that he wanted Xanax, police said. He then left the store.
