Flessner wins Williamsport Moose scholarship

Williamsport Moose Lodge 2462 awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Stephen Flessner of Williamsport High School on June 23.

To qualify for the scholarship, each applicant had to have at least a 2.5 grade-point average and submit an essay, not exceeding 1,000 words, on why they should receive it. 

Flessner carried a 4.40 grade-point average and never scored less than 92 percent in any class during his high school career. He was named to the distinguished honor roll every marking period.

He played varsity tennis for four years and recorded a 41-11-1 record. He was the team captain the last two years.

 He won the sportsmanship award two of three years at the annual sports banquet.

He volunteers as a youth tennis instructor at camps at Hagerstown Community College. He attends St. Augustine Catholic Church in Williamsport, where he is involved in multiple activities, including the food bank, clothing drives, nursing home visits and the annual Harvest Hoedown. He has logged more than 100 hours of community service.

He was senior class president, vice president of the National Honor Society, a member of SADD, FCA, History Club, student government and was an AVID tutor.

 He was nominated to take a leadership class at HCC.
