Washington County Teachers association awards three scholarships

The Washington County Teachers Association presented three $1,000 scholarships at its annual business meeting May 15.

Scholarships were presented by Aline Novak, WCTA scholarship chairwoman.

Siena Lund of North Hagerstown High School was awarded the Dot Truax Scholarship.

She is the daughter of WCTA member Nancy Lund. Siena plans to attend Hagerstown Community College and major in early childhood education.

Emily Irwin of North High is the daughter of WCTA member Sally Irwin. Emily plans to pursue a degree in bioengineering in hopes of furthering her education after earning a Bachelor of Science degree by attending medical school or grad school to study bioengineering.

Haley Caudell of Smithsburg High School is the daughter of WCTA member Linda Caudell.  Haley plans to attend West Virginia Wesleyan University and major in exercise science. Her goal is to work with children, the elderly and the disabled who need physical rehabilitation.  She would like to further her education by attaining a master’s degree in occupational therapy or speech pathology.
