Alma P. Unger, 84, of Jefferson Boulevard in Smithsburg, Md., passed away Friday, July 5, 2013, at her home.

Born Sept. 18, 1928, near Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph I. and Mary C. (Law) Gift.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ellsworth Unger II, on Feb. 9, 1999.

She was a local musician who played at local clubs, the V.A. center and the prison.

She was a member of the Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Cavetown, Md.

She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Hagerstown Elks Club, Red Men Tribe 84 of Williamsport, Moose Lodge 1136 of Waynesboro, Disabled American Veterans, VFW of Hagerstown, American Legion of Funkstown and Order of Owls Nest 1780.

She is survived by sons, William E. Unger III of Smithsburg, Dennis E. Unger of Chewsville, Douglas L. Unger of Kodiak, Tenn., and Ernest C. Unger of Clear Spring; sisters, Dolores Baillet of Greencastle, Pa., and Janet Hessong of Wolfsville; brothers, Russell Gift of Cavetown, Earl Gift of Thurmont, Md., and Gerald Gift of Fairplay; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Rachael Collins and Vivian Coldsmith; and brothers, Donnel Gift, Harold Gift and Ralph Gift.

Services will be Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor Stephen Strite officiating. Burial will be at Smithsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
