Emergency road repairs close right lane of westbound Interstate 70

July 05, 2013

Emergency road repairs have closed the right lane of travel on westbound Interstate 70 at the Conococheague Creek bridge, according to Maryland State Police in Hagerstown.

The area is west of Hagerstown near the 23-mile marker, just west of Exit 24, police said in a news release.

“This is an unexpected situation that arose and had to be dealt with immediately to assure the safety of the motoring public,” the release stated. “Motorists should expect to encounter extremely slow traffic, compounded by the normally heavy Friday westbound traffic and the holiday weekend.”

Drivers should expect delays beginning in the area of Exit 35 (Md. 66). Police advise motorists who are able to take alternate routes to stay clear of the city of Hagerstown, which is hosting events tonight that include traffic closures in the downtown area.

The slow traffic is expected to last at least a few more hours, police said at about 5:30 p.m.
