YOUTH SOFTBALL

District 1 Junior Tournament

HALFWAY — Cierra Beaver had three hits and struck out five, leading Halfway past Sharpsburg 10-5 in Game 2 of the best-of-3 championship series on Wednesday to finish off a sweep.

Halfway advanced to the state tournament, which will begin on July 19 at Sharpsburg Little League.

Madi Renn had two hits and two RBIs, while Taylor McCarty and Jasmine White each drove in two runs for Halfway.

Jessica Hutchinson had two hits and Tori Trzasca drove in two runs for Sharpsburg.

Hagerstown PONY League

Eagles 10, UAW 2

Eagles: Harrison Barger 2 hits, grand slam; Bryce Ruppenthal HR, 10 Ks; Gage Kyler 2 hits, 2 RBIs; Travis Moats 2 hits.

UAW: Ryan Downes 2 hits.

Nationals: Airin Martin 2 hits, HR, 3 RBIs; Luke Harsh 2 hits.

Nationals: Airin Martin 2-hitter, 9 Ks; Sinjin Shoop 3 hits; Sloane Bendell 2 hits, 2 RBIs.



GOLF

Hole-in-one

Shawn Ferguson scored an ace on Thursday using a 7-iron on the 139-yard par-3 seventh hole at Hagerstown Greens at Hamilton Run. Ariel Bell, Andre Moore and Charles Burnett witnessed the shot.
