Mail Call - July 5

July 04, 2013

“I’m glad that The Herald-Mail, in their article on same-sex marriage, acknowledged the fact that some people were celebrating and not everyone was celebrating. This to me is historic only in the fact that it’s one more drop farther into the gutter of immorality that our society has fallen. We really need to pick it up, because this can only get worse, not better.”
— Hagerstown

“I, too, was at the classic car show in Williamsport. It was the first one. I thought it was a lot of fun. I’m glad that the bands played there, and it would be also fun if an Elvis impersonator were there sometime, in retro dress. If people were in retro dress, it would be fun, and even to have someone skating. I thought it was a lot of fun.”
— Williamsport

“Caller of 6/27, you need to do some research on the political witch hunt courtesy of the IRS. Not all people targeted were asking for tax exemptions, i.e., Gibson Guitar. It just so happened the ones who were asking for tax exemptions were members of the tea party, pro-life, pro-gun, etc. The IRS apologized. IRS is not a political service. It does what its puppetmasters tell them to do, who are looking for dirt. They just wasted $50 million on conferences in two years, which included line dancing, partying. Now IRS is getting $70 million in bonuses. Get real.”
— Sharpsburg

“I am a bit confused by the tea party groups seeking tax-exemption status. Are they not the ones who detest wasteful government programs? Would not tax exemption be considered an entitlement? Surely even they realize there must be some taxes, in order for the government to provide services. So shouldn’t they pay their own way, without being tax exempt?”
— Williamsport

“So the lawmakers are saying that Washington County will be exempt from the rain tax. Well, if I recall correctly, Washington County was exempt from vehicle emission testing at first, too — and we all know how that turned out.”
— Clear Spring

“Our county roads, especially the back roads, are ideal for jogging, bicycling, and especially for walking dogs. Seems that’s about to take a hiatus, what with tar and chip coming — this aside from other inconveniences.”
— South County
