Without God there can be no America

To the editor:

Under the heading “The United States remains a Christian nation,” Ned Renner (June 9) made his point that America “began as a Christian nation” and remains as such.

The Bible had its enduring effect upon the mores of the underlying documents that form our law. This cannot be denied; there is direct reference to God.

Today there is a never-ending effort to ensure that religion and government are “separate and distinct.” Even traditional holidays such as Christmas and Easter are being renamed by the nonbelievers so as to create a totally secular state.

But our president has lauded the greatness of the Muslim past in his speech to a Muslim country in the Middle East after his inauguration. Christianity is under serious attack in our country. It may become a demagogy of the future if the trend persists.

On June 24, on his radio program, Rush Limbaugh spoke with an admitted atheist for several minutes regarding the place of religion in political discourse.

The caller was discounting any belief in God. In conclusion, Mr. Limbaugh responded (and I am paraphrasing) by reminding the caller that “without God in America there will no longer be an America” as we have known it.  So true, Mr. Renner.
