Summer splash

An Out of School Splash will be held Saturday at the Robert W. Johnson Community Center, 109 W. North Ave., to recognize and congratulate all of the 2013 graduates.

Music will be provided by djSupaDupa, starting at 3 p.m.

The pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The event is open to all youth. Admission costs $2.50.

A special attraction has been planned, so come out and see and hear a girl sing underwater.

In addition, there will be hot dogs, hamburgers and water for sale for $1 each.

Concert planned

Award-winning gospel singer Helen Baylor will be in concert Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service at Greater Campher Temple King’s Apostle Church World Ministries, 125 Bethel St. in Hagerstown.

Elder Darin Mency and Elect Lady Helen Mency will lead the service.

The community is invited.

First Friday disco

Sharon Temple 160 will begin hosting its First Friday of the Month discos starting tonight at 9:30 p.m. at Elks Lodge 278, 326 N. Jonathan St.

Admission costs $5; however, if you have a valid ID that shows your birthday is in July, admission will be $3.

Donations still needed

The For Our Kids Sake annual bus trip to Six Flags in Jackson, N.J., scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, is still in need of financial donations.

There is still time to make a donation to help send area children to the amusement park.

Donations can be made at any Columbia Bank branch by making a deposit to account No. 141518.

Meeting planned

A meeting has been planned for Friday July 12, at 6 p.m. at Robert W. Johnson Community Center for all coaches of the Ruth Monroe Summer Basketball League.

Chocolate Garden Tea to be held July 13

The Friends of the Doleman Black Heritage Museum will present the second annual Chocolate Garden Tea on Saturday, July 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Applause Caterers, 58 E. Washington St. 

The tea will include a mixture of chocolate desserts, a showing of the latest mobile museum exhibits, a raffle of two Longaberger baskets filled with goodies, and performances by pianist Latonya Wrenn of Washington, D.C.

Linda Irvin-Craig of the Washington County Historical Society will be the guest speaker.

Doors open at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $25 per person or $250 for a table that seats 10. Tickets can be purchased by calling the museum at 301-797-5019.

The event is sponsored by Hagerstown-Washington County Convention Visitors Bureau.

Proceeds will go to the museum and its potential move downtown.

Bone to be Wild

The 10th annual Humane Society of Washington County’s Bone to Be Wild — the Dave Alderson Memorial Motorcycle Ride — will take place on Saturday.

Proceed will go to the animal shelter.

Registration costs $30 per rider. The ride will begin at the humane society on Maugansville Road in Hagerstown at 11 a.m. and will end at Barefoot Bernie’s, where there will be food, prizes and raffles for the participants.
