A horse rescued from Lappans Road this week had to be euthanized Wednesday because of its condition, according to a spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Washington County.
A person who was concerned about the horse’s condition alerted authorities about the animal, according to Addie Nardi, director of development for the humane society.
The horse was taken to the humane society on Maugansville Road on Monday, Nardi said.
A veterinarian examined the horse and determined nothing could be done to save the animal, Nardi said.
The horse’s hooves had overgrown and it could not walk due to bone breakdown, Nardi said.
An investigation was continuing, Nardi said.
