Waynesboro Summer Jubilee adds hot dog-eating contest

Children's activities will include a magic show, petting zoo, inflatable bounces, face painting, and arts and crafts

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — The Waynesboro Summer Jubilee Committee is actively preparing for its 17th annual patriotic celebration to be held on the Fourth of July on the grounds across from Waynesboro Hospital.

This year’s festivities will be highlighted by local musical entertainment from the Drew Adams Project from 4 to 6 p.m. and Lucky Punk at 7 p.m. All entertainment is free.

The Firecracker 5K Run also will take place in conjunction with the Summer Jubilee. The 5K run will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the children’s 1-mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m.

Registration forms for the races are available at the Waynesboro Area YMCA, the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce and on the Summer Jubilee website,


A flag-raising ceremony with local talent Natalie Buhrman singing the “Star-Spangled Banner” will occur at 9:30 a.m. Following that will be the annual parade, which is sponsored by the Brothers of the Brush on Main Street at 10:30 a.m.

The Declaration of Independence will be recited at 11 a.m.

There will be a variety of activities for children and adults throughout the day. Children’s activities will include a magic show, petting zoo, inflatable bounces, face painting, and arts and crafts.

New this year will be a hot dog-eating contest. The annual money machine challenge will also take place.

Most activities are free or of minimal cost to participants.

A variety of food and craft vendors will line the grounds during the jubilee. The craft show will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature a large selection of items available for purchase.

The fireworks display will take place at dusk and will feature a special tribute to our nation’s troops. A 60-second pause will follow the tribute prior to the annual fireworks display.
