Man injured in pickup truck accident on Eastern Boulevard

June 30, 2013

A Hagerstown man was taken to Meritus Medical Center on Sunday morning after the pickup truck he was driving crossed the centerline on Eastern Boulevard, hit the guardrail and bounced back across both lanes striking an embankment, Washington County Deputy Chris Peiffer said.

It appeared the red pickup truck had rolled over because there was damage to the top of the cab, but the pickup was upright when Peiffer arrived, Peiffer said.

Ryan Charles Hartsock, 19, who was conscious and speaking, was taken to Meritus Medical Center, Peiffer said.

The accident near the electrical substation on Eastern Boulevard, between Security Road and Jefferson Boulevard, was reported at 6:09 a.m. Sunday, Peiffer said.

The pickup was heading south on Eastern when it crossed the centerline and hit the guardrail on the northbound side, damaging the guardrail, Peiffer said.

Eastern Boulevard was closed for about 20 minutes due to the accident, he said.

The accident was still under investigation, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
