The Cheer Universe All Star Competitive Cheerleading team ended its 2012-13 season in May by winning the U.S. finals championships in Virginia Beach, Va.

Two teams from the small gym in Hagerstown competed at 10 competitions this season and came home with seven grand championship awards and seven first-place awards.

They knew in January that it was going to be a great season when each team brought home a grand championship. The awards motivated the athletes to work even harder knowing that their midseason goal was to win the Maryland state championship.

They continued to practice multiple times per week perfecting their skills and routines in preparation for competition.

On Feb. 2, their goal was realized when both teams stood on the stage at the Baltimore Convention Center as Maryland state grand champions.

Not only did both teams win their divisions, they were the highest scoring teams in each of their respective levels.

Finally, in May, after winning the U.S. finals championships in Virginia Beach, they were ranked fourth in the country for the 2012-13 season.

Cheer Universe is holding open registration for the 2013-14 season.
