City Council needs to make a decision on the Suns

To the editor:

How long is the Hagerstown City Council going to slip-slide around making a decision about the Suns? They have been at it for more years than I can remember. Studies, studies and more studies. Now we get an opinion from Councilman Don Munson that it is out of their hands. Another delaying tactic because no one wants to make a decision.

Hagerstown has been successfully avoiding progress for years because of the inability of the people in charge to stop worrying about annoying a small contingent of voters. For heaven’s sake, go ahead with the project or decide against it. Make a decision. Get it done.

Thanks to all involved with South High golf tournament

To the editor:

The South Hagerstown High School annual benefit golf tournament, sponsored by the South High Alumni Association, was held June 13 at Beaver Creek Country Club.

A big Rebels thank you to all of our players and sponsors — diamond, platinum, gold, green and cart. Also, special thanks to volunteers who make this day happen. And to the businesses that made donations — the Steiners and Beaver Creek Country Club, Dirk Schultz and staff, Phil Petry of the Best BBQ in Town, Krumpe’s Donuts, Donnie Viar and TMG Studios.

This year, we gave five $1,000 scholarships to the Class of 2013. We could not do this without you.

The association’s goal is to offer as many scholarships as funds allow. We will be having our event next year on Thursday, June 12. Hope to see you there.

Suzie Murray Gozora, Class of 1968
Sherry Gilliam Itnyre, Class of 1971
