Miss Western Maryland crowned Miss Maryland 2013

Miss Western Maryland Christina Denny was crowned Miss Maryland 2013 on Saturday night at The Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown.

Miss Queen State Sabrina Frost was named Miss Maryland Outstanding Teen.

As the new Miss Maryland, Denny, of Owings Mills, Md., will receive a $10,000 scholarship, courtesy of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Miss Maryland Organization, and other gifts that included a fox fur coat valued at $4,800.

Denny also will represent Maryland at the upcoming Miss America pageant.

Denny’s platform was “Special Deeds for Special Needs.”

Her scholastic/career ambition is to obtain a master’s degree in speech-language pathology. Her talent was vocal.

Miss Maryland 2012 Joanna Guy of Swanton sang “Wind Beneath My Wings” before she handed over the crown.

Miss America 1987 Kellye Cash was mistress of ceremonies.

Other title winners Saturday were:

  • First runner-up — Miss Appalachia Samantha Hawkins of Ellicott City, Md., was awarded a $4,000 scholarship.
  • Second runner-up — Miss Allegany County Sara Zeng of Brookeville, Md., was awarded a $3,000 scholarship.
  • Third runner-up — Miss Historic Maryland Stephanie Meadowcroft of Bel Air, Md., was awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
  • Fourth runner-up — Miss Capital Region Hannah Mollerick of Jessup, Md., was awarded a $1,500 scholarship.


Five semifinalists were awarded $1,000 scholarships.

The runners-up in the Miss Maryland Outstanding Teen Pageant were:

  • First runner up — Miss Frederick Outstanding Teen Sarah Robinson
  • Second runner-up — Miss Allegany County Outstanding Teen Brittany Brown
  • Third runner-up — Miss Central Maryland Outstanding Teen Gallienne Gilmer
  • Fourth runner-up — Miss Annapolis Outstanding Teen Taylor Diggs

Twenty-four contestants in each category competed for a chance to win the crowns.
