A convicted sex offender wanted in Florida for violating the conditions of his release was arrested Tuesday in Martinsburg, W.Va., according to the Mountain State Fugitive Task Force.

Robert Connolly, 63, who was living in an apartment on West Main Street in Martinsburg, was taken into custody early Tuesday by U.S. marshals and West Virginia State Police while he was operating his vehicle on College Street, a task force news release said.

Authorities said Connolly was arrested without incident.

Connolly was on probation from the state of Florida for a conviction of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, the release said. He was being supervised by the West Virginia State Department of Parole and Probation.

The state of Florida issued a warrant for Connolly’s arrest after he violated the conditions of his release, the task force said.

The Mountain State Task Force is made up of three offices that cover the northern portion of West Virginia.

The Martinsburg office of the task force is comprised of the Berkeley, Jefferson, Mineral and Morgan counties sheriff’s offices, the Martinsburg and Shepherdstown police departments, West Virginia State Police and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
