Daniel Joseph "Joe" Yetter, 81, of Clear Spring, Md., passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, after a courageous 41-year battle with cancer. 

Born Oct. 9, 1931, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Daniel Emmanuel Yetter and Margaret "Wolf" Yetter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis Malcolm Yetter of Clear Spring.

Joe was of the Protestant faith and a graduate of Clear Spring High School.

In early years, he worked with the family business of Daniel E. Yetter Masonry. He retired as a mason with Leroy Myers Inc.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War, and a member of the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring.

Joe enjoyed his family, gardening and the outdoors.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward L. Yetter, and  Joseph M. Yetter and wife, Cheryll, all of Clear Spring; twin grandsons, Ryan and Eric Yetter; two nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Miller.

Services will be held Monday, June 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Dennis Whitmore will officiate.

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown with military honors by Clear Spring American Legion Post 222.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon.
