William C. Ryde

William C. Ryder, 87, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, at Transitions Health in Gettysburg, Pa.

He was born March 15, 1926, in Emmitsburg, Md., a son of the late Gerald Noel Ryder and Grace Alice (Cool) Ryder.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant/platoon leader in the European Theater.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

He was employed by Hagerstown Bookbinding and Printing Co. for many years as an account executive. He also served as a member of SCORE, executive assistant for the National Association for the Advancement of Preborn Children, or NAAPC, and adviser and a founding member of Hagerstown Magazine. He also served on the board of directors of Community Free Clinic in Hagerstown.

His wife, Harriett, preceded him in death.

He is survived by sons, William Joseph of Hagerstown and Donald Alan of Spring Grove, Pa.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service is being planned by the family.
