William Arthur Harple died June 15, 2013, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

He was born Sept. 30, 1925, in Hagerstown, to the late Arthur and Myrtle (nee Murray) Harple.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Jane and Harlan Harple; his first wife, Mildred; and stepdaughter, Paige.

He was employed by Beachley Furniture Co. and retired in 1990 after 45 years of employment.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. 

Bill was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men’s Group, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion and a life member Antietam Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by a daughter, Jayne Chris Harple of Titusville, Fla.; a son, Thomas Harple and his wife, Kathy, of Hagerstown; stepdaughter, Linda Fields and her husband, John; and stepson, Darren R. Andrews and his wife, Patrea. Bill also is survived by a granddaughter, Dana Harple; six stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. 


The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 19, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harman, Kenworthy & Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. A funeral service will be Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Clark D. Carr officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s name to Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W. Church St., Hagerstown, MD 21740 would be appreciated by the family.
