Church festival planned June 26

Salem Reformed Church will hold its church festival Wednesday, June 26, starting at 5 p.m.

The menu includes country ham and chicken salad sandwiches, hot dogs, steamers, chicken corn soup, chicken noodle soup, bean soup, salads, cakes and pies, iced tea and sodas.

The community is invited.

The church is on Salem Church Road off Cearfoss Pike.

Discuss the economy with a cup of coffee

The Investment Perspective Club will begin meeting on the fourth Thursday of each month. It discusses the economy and current events with Shelby McGinley, a financial adviser from Edward Jones. The club will meet at McGinley’s office, at 140 S. Potomac St. The community outreach service is open to everyone.

Free coffee and pastries are provided. There is no charge. Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the Hagerstown Food Bank. The next meeting is Thursday, July 25.

Losses for the week totaled 30 1/2 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077.

The best TOPS losers were Elsie Horst and Valerie Eccard. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Jean Betker, Maida Law and Joan Gilbert.

The no-no snack for the week is cake.

Awards were presented for the month of May. The honored KOPS were Judy Purdam, Mary Jo Kemper and Gilbert. The division I winner was Joan Jones. The runner-up was JoAnn Staup.  The division II winner was Emma Jean Robertson and the runner-up was JoAnn McCabe.

Shining Stars for the month were Eccard and Pat Horning. Vacation charms were awarded to Lu Marletta, Dottie Alexander, Deloris Hays, Kemper, Marlene Auda and Dorothy Smith. 

KOPS members at or below their goal weight were Darla Hartley, Deloris Hays, Purdam, Rose Shockey, Mildred Hluchy and Maida Law.

Cindy Ryder gave her Pound Puppy to Betty Rice. The Yellow Rose Ceremony will be June 24.

The picnic committee will meet next week after the TOPS meeting.

The group meets Monday mornings at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

The meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and weigh-in is from 7:15 to 9:15 a.m.

Repeat Performance Thrift Shop seeks used items

Repeat Performance Thrift Shop, the boutique-style store operated by the Meritus Medical Center Auxiliary, is accepting donations of clean, gently used merchandise.

The shop sells women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, jewelry, handbags, shoes, domestics/linens, household items and books.

The all-volunteer auxiliary staff invites the community to visit the shop, off Pennsylvania Avenue behind Dunkin’ Donuts on Crestwood Drive in Hagerstown.

It is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shop is closed Sunday and Monday.
