A Hagerstown man was charged with first-degree assault and other charges following a double stabbing Friday night in Hagerstown, the Hagerstown Police Department said Saturday morning.

Robert Lee Pettaway, 19, of 237 Jefferson St. was charged through Washington County District Court with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, according to a police department news release.

Police responded to the rear of 146 N. Potomac St. at 11:52 p.m. for a male victim who had been stabbed in the upper torso and left arm, police said. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center, police said.

A second male victim with a stab wound to his upper torso arrived at the hospital while the first victim was being treated, police said.

Both victims, neither of whom were identified, later were released from the hospital after their injuries were determined to be not life threatening, police said.

The first stabbing occurred in the 700 block of North Potomac Street, police said.
