June 13, 2013

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Falling Waters, W.Va., man  wanted on allegations of soliciting a minor for sex in October 2012 was captured Thursday by the Mountain State Fugitive Task Force, the U.S. Marshals Service announced.

Peter Stankiewicz, 29, was captured in Martinsburg through a joint effort by the Marshals Service, and Maryland and West Virginia state police, according to a news release.

Authorities believed that the defendant fled to Salisbury, Md., shortly after the alleged criminal act occurred, according to the news release.

Upon being asked to locate Stankiewicz last month, the task force determined the defendant was in Maryland, but then came back to West Virginia, the release said.

About noon on Thursday, U.S. marshals and state troopers “just missed him” at a Falling Waters, W.Va., area campsite where he was said to be staying, the release said.

The defendant had gone to Martinsburg for a medical appointment, where members of the task force caught up with him.

He was arrested without incident, the Marshals Service said.
