Rec department offers day camp

The Washington County Recreation Department will sponsor a day camp this summer.

The weekly sessions will be offered from June 17 to Aug. 2. The camp is for those ages 6 to 12 in a well-supervised atmosphere. The camp begins each day at 8 a.m. in the community gym at Hancock Middle-Senior High School.

Dismissal each day is at 4 p.m., either at the gym or at the Hancock Municipal Swimming Pool, depending on the day.

Campers should bring their own lunch and a snack and, weather permitting, should plan to swim ($2 pool fee) in the afternoons on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Additional activities include walks to the park, rainy-day movies, crafts and membership in the summer reading program at the Hancock Library.

Sessions are weekly, but students can sign up for any or all sessions.

The camp costs $40 per week for county residents and $45 for noncounty residents. The camp will be closed July 4, but there is no discount that week.)

Registration forms are online at http://issuu.com/washingtoncountyrecreation/docs/summer_2013_brochure or call 240-313-2805.

Forms can be dropped off or sent to: Washington County Recreation Department, 11400 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Adventures in Friendship

There is still time to register a child for the 17th annual installment of Adventures in Friendship, set this year for Monday, June 24, through Friday, June 28.

The five-day day camp for those ages 9 to 13 is jointly sponsored by the Interfaith Service Coalition and St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church and meets at the church parish hall on East High Street.

The program teaches safety, health, nutrition and other life skills.  Numerous guests make presentations, and there are field trips and special activities all week.

Breakfast and lunch are served each day.

Thanks to funding through grants, there is no charge for the camp, but formal registration and parental permission forms must be completed. Space is limited.

To register, call Debbie Cohill at 301-678-6605.
