Soroptimist International of Hagerstown honors three local women

Soroptimist International of Hagerstown honored three local women at its spring awards ceremony.

McKenzie Divelbiss received the Violet Richardson Award, which honors high school girls who donate their time and energy through volunteer service. A $250 check was presented to the charity of her choice. She also received a $500 check to continue her education.

Jesse Maphis received the Women’s Opportunity Award for overcoming obstacles in her quest for a better life. A $1,000 check was presented to Maphis to help her with education and skill training.

Janet Lung of Breast Cancer Awareness — Cumberland Valley received the Ruby Award for improving the lives of women and girls through her personal and professional activities. A $500 check was presented in her name to BCA-CV.

Soroptimist International is a 501-3c organization headquartered in Philadelphia. It offers programs that improve the lives of women and girls through social and economic empowerment.
