Closed for hours after power line falls across roadway

U.S. 340

June 09, 2013

A high-tension power line fell across both lanes of U.S. 340 Sunday afternoon, forcing authorities to shut down the highway for about four hours until the situation was corrected, a Washington County 911 supervisor said.

It is believed the line might have fallen after being struck by a tree, according to a Maryland State Police spokesman.

The fallen line, which was between Md. 67 and the Frederick County, Md., line, was reported at 3:07 p.m., and the higway was closed shortly thereafter, the supervisor said.

The highway was reopened at 7:25 p.m.
