Denver "Junior" Hess, 88, of McConnellsburg, Pa., and formerly of Hancock, Md., passed away Friday, June 7, 2013, at Fulton County Medical Center.

Born Sept. 19, 1924, in the Pigeon Cove area of Warfordsburg, Pa., he was the son of Floyd and Alverta (Studenwalt) Hess.

He was married to Wava Mellott Hess on Sept. 21, 1990.

He graduated in 1942 from Bethel Township High School.

Denver was employed by the Hancock Motel as a front desk clerk for more than 40 years until his retirement.

He enjoyed making people laugh by telling jokes and stories, and loved his cats. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.   

Denver is survived by his wife, Wava J. (Mellott) Hess of McConnellsburg; three stepchildren, Sherry D. Metz (Samuel), Sharon L. Glenn (Michael) and Byron K. Hann (Michele), all of McConnellsburg; two granddaughters, Katie Gustaf (Brent) and McKenzie Hann; two great-grandsons, Landon and Wyatt Gustaf; sister, Alice J. McKeever of Warfordsburg; nephew, Michael J. McKeever; and three nieces, Joan E. Paken, Cathy J. Blackburn and Jackie L. Clower.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Deborah J. Hess.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Cito United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

A viewing will be Monday, June 10, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, with the family being present from 4 to 8 p.m. The Rev. John Godissart and Richard Bernhard will officiate.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cito United Methodist Church, 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg, PA 17233.

Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, is handling the arrangements.
