Greencastle man killed in collision on I-81

June 08, 2013

CARLISLE, Pa. — A Franklin County, Pa., man was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Clayton Stoner, 26, address unavailable, of Greencastle, Pa., was driving a northbound tow truck that crossed the median into the southbound lanes, troopers said in a news release.

The 9:30 a.m. crash involved four vehicles about three miles south of Exit 37 near Newville, Pa., troopers said.

The tow truck sideswiped a tractor-trailer pulling a double trailer, troopers said. The second trailer overturned, and a minivan passing the tractor-trailer swerved into the median to avoid a collision, but was struck by flying debris, troopers said.

After striking the first tractor-trailer, the tow truck struck a second one head-on, troopers said.

Stoner was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The driver of the second tractor-trailer, whom police did not identify, was seriously injured and taken to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center, troopers said.

Two people in the first tractor-trailer were taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries, troopers said.

The three people in the minivan were uninjured, troopers said.
