Manager of Hagerstown liquor store wants to buy business

June 06, 2013

The manager of a liquor store in downtown Hagerstown told Washington County liquor officials Wednesday that she wants to buy the business from the current owner.

Erica Vu said during a hearing before the Board of License Commissioners for Washington County that she wanted to purchase Universal Spirits at 33 E. Franklin St. from current owner David Verzi.

Verzi’s attorney, Brian Kurtyka, who also attended the hearing, said Verzi spends a lot of time in Florida and wanted to transfer the liquor license to Vu.

Vu said she has managed Universal Spirits for the last three years.

Robert Everhart, liquor board chairman, said Vu would have to apply to transfer the liquor license.

The application process takes 30 days.
