Alta Lee “Susie” Mowen, 95, of Cumberland, Md., died Sunday, June 2, 2013.

Born March 11, 1918, in Pleasant Grove, she was the daughter of the late Erven Allen and Cleo Evangeline (Wilson) House.

Her husband of 62 years, Wilbert F. “Bus” Mowen, preceded her in death on July 15, 1999.

She also was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Allen House Sr.; and her sister, Pauline Virginia Ringler.

A devoted homemaker, Susie also was an active member at Centre Street United Methodist Church.

In addition, she was past matron of McKinley Chapter 12, OES; past queen of Re Temple 118, DON; and past mother adviser of Cumberland Assembly 6, IORG.

Survivors include her son, Wilbert “Sonny” Allen  Mowen and wife, Eileen, Potomac Park; her daughter, Cleo Jane Grams and husband, Robert, Clear Spring; a grandson, Frank A. Mowen and wife, Tammy, Glendale, Ariz.; four granddaughters, Rebecca Sue Lewis and husband, William III, Cumberland, Roxanne Lea Walsh and husband, Jonathan, Hagerstown, Vickie Puffenburger and husband, Tommy, Hedgesville, W.Va., and Sandy Wood and husband, David, Hedgesville; four great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. The family also appreciates her “extended family” at The Kensington who provided such kind, compassionate care.

Friends will be received at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Officers and member of McKinley Chapter 12, OES, will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home Wednesday at 7 p.m., followed by Re Temple 118, DON.

The funeral service will be conducted at Centre Street United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ann Atkins officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
