June 03, 2013

Steve Wernick, who was slated to become Cascade Elementary School’s principal next school year, said Monday that he is leaving Washington County Public Schools to take a job with Carroll County (Md.) Public Schools.

Wernick, who is the local director of elementary education, lives in Carroll County. He said he will become principal at Mechanicsville Elementary.

A new principal for Cascade Elementary School has not yet been named.

Cascade’s current principal, Karen Palmer, will be principal at Boonsboro Elementary in the next school year.

Wernick said he has worked for the Washington County school system for 10 years, starting as assistant principal at Pangborn Elementary in Hagerstown’s East End.

He was principal at Salem Avenue Elementary in Hagerstown’s West End during a year when the school was being renovated and expanded.

Wernick said he was elementary supervisor for language arts, social studies and early learning for six years.
