June 02, 2013

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A Harpers Ferry, W.Va., man died following a two-vehicle accident Friday morning on U.S. 340 in Charles Town, according to a news release from the Charles Town Police Department.

Lester Pete Snider, 82, was flown by helicopter to a medical facility in Fairfax, Va., where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The accident was reported Friday at 11:14 a.m. on northbound U.S. 340 between Somerset Village and Marlowe roads, police said.

Snider was traveling in the left lane and was passing a dump truck driven by Wayne C. Barrow, 30, of Inwood, W.Va., said Sgt. Jim Knott of the Charles Town Police Department.

Snider moved into the right lane too quickly after passing the dump truck and the rear of Snider’s vehicle came in contact with the dump truck, Knott said. Snider lost control of his vehicle, which struck an embankment and flipped at least once, Knott said.

Barrow was not injured, police said.

The Charles Town Police Department was assisted at the scene by multiple county, state and federal agencies.

Friday’s accident was the second fatal crash in Charles Town in the past two months, police said.
