Masako Kitamura "Marie" Pettit, 83, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and formerly of Halfway, Md., passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, Va.

Born Nov. 16, 1929, in Nagasaki, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Jiro and Aisako Kitamura.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Carlton Pettit Sr., on Dec. 25, 2004.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Independent Bible Church in Hedgesville, W.Va.

She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was a surviving witness of the atomic bombing at Nagasaki during World War II.

She is survived by daughter, Barbara P. Rose and her husband, William, of Hagerstown, Md.; daughter, Marie P. Castle and her husband, Greg, of Aldie, Va.; son, Howard C. Pettit Jr. of Falling Waters; son, Michael M. Pettit and his wife, Laura, of Falling Waters; son, Patrick W. Pettit and Wendy Pettit of Martinsburg, W.Va.; son, Raymond L. "Lenny" Pettit and his wife, Cindi, of Hagerstown; brother, Hisao Kitamura of Osaka, Japan; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 4, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md. The funeral home will open Tuesday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, with Pastor Brad Heacock officiating. Burial will be private at Rocky Gap State Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.
