Haven Lutheran group plans fundraiser

A group of women and teens from Haven Lutheran Church in Hagerstown will hold a mission trip fundraiser Friday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the church.

The event will include the parlor game Bunco, refreshments and door prizes. 

All money raised will assist in transportation costs to Virginia’s Eastern Shore, lodging and materials for helping the community.

The church is at 1035 Haven Road.

Losses for the week totaled 29 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077. 

The best TOPS losers were Pat Horning, Kathy Freese and Carol LeClaire. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Dianne Keely and Mildred Hluchy.

Millie Toms presented the program to challenge and encourage members to obtain their goal weight. 

The no-no snack for the week is soda.

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.  Weigh-in is from 7 to 9:15 a.m., and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  For more information, call Patsy P. at 301-582-2292 of Patsy M. at 301-842-3615.

Spectrum to perform at Post 42 Legion May 25

The local variety band Spectrum will hold its spring dance Saturday, May 25, from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion  on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

The dance is open to the public. Dinner will be available to members and guests with advance reservations.

Concert planned

The Back Creek Valley Boys will perform a concert Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Church, 14336 Greencastle Pike in Cearfoss.

Refreshments will be served.

A basket will be placed in front of the church for contributions for cemetery maintenance and a goodwill offering will be collected for the concert performance. 

Cat adoption fees reduced

The Humane Society of Washington County is holding a limited-time special on cat adoption fees in honor of Mother’s Day. 

The fee is reduced by 50 percent to $25 through Wednesday.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to bring a new companion into your home,” said Mike Lausen, executive director of the shelter. “We have some wonderful cats here at the shelter right now. I encourage everyone to visit during this time.”

Kiwanis makes donation

Jim Miller, president of the Hagerstown Kiwanis Club, presented a $400 sponsorship check to Thomas Kline, a coach at Federal Little League.
