Winner of Bonanza Extravaganza grand prize wants to remain unnamed

More than 7,000 attended Saturday's event at Hagerstown Speedway

The winner of the $100,000 grand prize at Saturday’s Bonanza Extravaganza at Hagerstown Speedway has asked that his name not be released, according to John Murray, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1605.

Murray did say Sunday that the winner is a man from Alexandria, Va. The winner was not present when the winning ticket was announced, he said.

There were plenty of other winners, with more than 60 people walking away with cash prizes from $1,000 to $15,000, Murray said. Bonanza Extravaganza, he said.

A total of 10,000 $100 tickets were sold for a chance at the prizes, Murray said.

More than 7,000 people attended Saturday’s event, an annual affair staged by firefighters that has raised an estimated $800,000 for nonprofit organizations since its inception eight years ago, Murray said Saturday.

Final figures are not in for how much was raised Saturday, but Murray said it will be on par with past years.
