An 8-year-old Williamsport boy was flown to the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., on Friday evening after he was shot accidentally, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

The boy was in stable condition Friday night, according to Deputy 1st Class Carly Hose, who is a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

The incident was reported about 5:50 p.m. from an apartment located in a building on 10707 Brookmeade Circle in Williamsport.

Hose said the boy suffered a single gunshot wound to the left thigh from a handgun.

Two adults and four children were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

“We are still investigating the incident,” Hose said.

No other details about the circumstances of the shooting were released by the sheriff’s office.
