Mail Call - May 1

April 30, 2013

“To the caller who was talking about John Donoghue bringing home the grant to Washington County: Not really interested so much about whether, who brought the grant to the county. What I’m interested in is Gov. O’Malley raising taxes 26 times since he’s been governor, and John Donoghue voting for every one of them, along with Mike Miller and Michael Busch, down in Annapolis. All these guys need to be replaced in November.”
— Hagerstown

“This is in response to the person who heard what they thought were gunshots down in Rest Haven Cemetery. I also live close to Rest Haven Cemetery, and I have witnessed seeing live deer down there, so I’m wondering if maybe when they’ve heard these shots, if someone is in there shooting the deer. ... The poor deer, they have been run out of everywhere, and all the woods have been cut.”
— Hagerstown

“While the ‘news’ media have been gaga about the (admittedly horrific) Boston incident (in which the perps managed to kill four and wound a large number of others), in that same last day while the ‘news flackers’ were fixated on the capture of the second perpetrator, another 30 people were killed in firearms assaults nationwide, and another 100 killed in gun ‘accidents’ (averages of 30,000 per year in the U.S). Are we being ‘seduced’ by the ‘profit/ratings-motivated’ press, to take our eye off the elephant in the room?”
— Brownsville

“Yay, ‘Click & Clack’ are back in the Sunday paper.”
— Hagerstown

“Due to the astronomical amount of taxes a person has to pay in the state of Maryland, it has increased the amount of stress, mental anguish and anxiety among these citizens. It is hard to face reality, but the reality is, in the state of Maryland, it is better to be dead than alive. Then you won’t have to pay these taxes.”
— Clear Spring

“This should really be good. Fairgrounds Park will be the location of the city’s first off-leash dog park. Well, folks, get your cameras ready. You’re going to see lots of dog fights, and dogs having sex. Have fun.”
— Washington County

“One reason the post office is going broke, you mail a card or a package to anyone in your ZIP code, even a neighbor, it doesn’t go just to the local post office and then to the neighbor. It goes all the way to Baltimore and back. So we pay for trucking and oil and workers, instead of the guy sitting over there, or the women sitting over at the post office.”
— Hagerstown

“This is in reply to the caller to Mail Call on Wednesday the 24th, the one who lives on Fry Avenue. I’m just wondering what is wrong, that people can’t go out and clean the street in front of their own homes. I clean the street and the curb in front of my house whenever it needs it ... If the owners of the residences along the street took responsibility to clean their own area, then there wouldn’t be as much trash in Hagerstown as there is.”
