Relay for Life seeks your help, support

To the editor:

In May 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Wash., raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight the nation’s biggest health concern.

Once again, as the weather begins to warm, we look forward to raising funds for the American Cancer Society through one of our local Relay For Life events. Our second annual Relay For Life of Southern Washington County will take place Friday, June, 21, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Ag Center south of Hagerstown on Sharpsburg Pike.

Prior to the event, we will be trying to get teams and sponsors to help us raise funds. Our goal this year is $32,000.

We hold monthly rallies for our teams to learn more and to share ideas. These rallies are held the third Tuesday of every month at Mt. Nebo United Methodist church in Boonsboro, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The next one is May 21.

Many of us have been touched by cancer in some way and we would appreciate your help and support of this wonderful event. If you have never been to a relay, you should come out and see how much fun it really is.
