Richard Joseph McEvoy, 87, died peacefully Sunday, April 28, 2013, at his Hagerstown home surrounded by family.

Born Aug. 19, 1925, in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of Joseph A. McEvoy and Ann M. McEvoy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Hallad McEvoy; daughter, Patricia and husband, Charles Bossler, of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Jeanette and husband, Steven MacNamara, of Sicklerville, N.J.; son, Miles McEvoy and wife, Ami Greenberg, of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Jean Mercready of Ashburn, Va., and Nancy Wroten of North Olmstead, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

Dick was an Eagle Scout and Boy Scout leader.

He volunteered for military service at age 17, serving during World War II with the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division in Italy, where he received the Purple Heart.

A graduate of Rutgers University, he worked as an electrical engineer for 35 years, retiring from RCA in 1985.

He was a resident of New Jersey until retirement, and lived in Hagerstown, Md., for the past 26 years.

Dick was well-known in the local and national model railroading community as an avid HO-model railroader who shared his enthusiasm for and love of the hobby.

A memorial service will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 29 East Ave., State Line, Pa. The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
