Gene Alden O’Dell, 76, of Hagerstown, Md., died April 26, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born May 25, 1936, in Quinwood, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lundy B. and Edith M. (Jones) O’Dell.

Gene served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1954 to 1957, during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal. Gene worked as a truck driver for Pony Express and Halls Motor Transit. He received driving awards for 15 years with no accident and million-mile safe driving.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Evelyn Annabelle O’Dell; two sons, David O’Dell and wife, Linda, and Donald O’Dell; four daughters, Colette Williams and husband, Ernest, Joan Bennett and husband, Phillip, Marsha Flowers and husband, David, and Michelle Seavolt and husband, Michael; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Gene was a member of Hagerstown Christian Church and a past member of the former Hagerstown Grace Brethren Church, where he was a member for 45 years.

Gene was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Marine Corps League, American Legion and Teamsters Union.

He loved spending time with his family, watching Orioles baseball, and summer vacations at the beach.

Graveside military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon at Good Shepherd Ministries, 19763 Longmeadow Road, Hagerstown. Pastor Brad Nigh will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Toys for Tots.
