Smithsburg Middle School team raising money to go to DI Globals

April 28, 2013

Dumbledore’s Army, a middle school-level Destination Imagination team from Smithsburg Middle School, will represent Washington County at the Destination Imagination Global Finals competition taking place in Knoxville, Tenn., from May 21 to 25.

The team will compete against more than 1,200 teams from around the world.

Destination Imagination is the world’s largest creative problem-solving program.

Teams solve one of seven challenges in the areas of science, technology, mechanics, engineering and theater.

The local team chose and addressed a community need as part of the Project Outreach Challenge.

The team must raise $5,000 in order to compete in Knoxville, and is seeking the support of the community. Donations may be sent to Smithsburg Middle School PTSA, 168 N. Main St., Smithsburg, MD 21783; or in the form of a check made payable to DII, a 501(c)(3) corporation, 1111 South Union Ave., Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.  In order for the team to receive credit for the donation, please note on the check: Global Final Donation Team No. 120-70098.  The team has also created an online fundraising page at www.gofundme.com/2nm7io.

“We would be grateful for any donation, large or small,” team members Kaity Gertz, Jade Lee and Mary Miller said.
