An overnight prayer vigil, hosted by Back 2Acts Ministries, starts tonight at 9 p.m. and ends Saturday at 6 a.m. at Memorial Recreation Center, 109 W. North Ave.

Movie night

Bridge of Life, at 14 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, will hold movie night Saturday, starting at 7 p.m.

The movie, popcorn and drinks are free.

Annual tea

The Zion Baptist Church Women’s Day committee will host its annual Women’s Day Tea Saturday at the Martin Luther King Center, 109 W. North Ave., beginning at 10 a.m. with the theme  “Journey to Joy: Women Running to Obtain the Prize,” 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.

Usher’s Day Program to feature singer

Second Christian Church will hold its Ushers Day Program Sunday, May 19, with Psalmist Karen King.

King, who will sing at both the morning and afternoon services, sang the national anthem for President Obama in Cleveland during his last campaign visit.


Indoor yard sale

Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon will be the last chance to stop by Asbury United Methodist Church, 155 Jonathan St., to take a look and pick up items at the indoor yard sale.

Prices range from 50 cents to $5 (some items might be slightly higher.)

Proceeds will go to vacation Bible school and youth activities.

Veterans to be honored

The City of Hagerstown’s Medal of Honor Group, Neighborhood 1st Association is asking for help in making the  Honoring Our Veterans Day of Hope on Sunday, May 26, at 6 p.m. a success.

If you or any member of your family (deceased or living) is a veteran, contact your church administrator, civic organization leader or visit Bethel Gardens Community Center during business hours and fill out and return the information.

Meeting planned

The Medal of Honor Group, Neighborhoods 1st Association, will meet Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at Bethel Gardens Community Center.  

Tobacco free classes  

The next classes for the Tobacco Free for Life Program are scheduled to start Monday, May 6.

The classes will meet twice per week on Mondays and Thursday, May 6 and May 9; May 13 and May 16, from 11 a.m. to noon at Washington County Health Department, 1302 Pennsylvania Ave., and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave.

Day of Giving

On Thursday, May 2, there will be a 24-hour Day of Giving sponsored by the Community Foundation of Washington County.
