Web-based community fundraiser set for May 2

The Community Foundation of Washington County will sponsor a 24-hour web-based, social-media-driven fundraiser called on Thursday, May 2.

The goal is to get local residents to support their favorite Washington County charity by raising funds in a 24-hour period.

From midnight to 11:59 p.m., a share of each donation made to local nonprofits will be matched with a pool of $30,000 in funds provided by the major sponsors and the Community Foundation of Washington County.

Stop by the Valley Mall food court from 5 to 7 p.m. and join 104.7 WAYZ for a live remote with prizes and giveaways.

PTA night set at Cici’s Pizza

The Hickory Elementary School PTA will host a PTA dinner Tuesday, April 30, at Cici’s Pizza on Wesel Boulevard.

A portion of dinner bills will benefit the Hickory PTA.

Kindergarten orientation planned May 2 for Hickory

Students registered to attend kindergarten at Hickory Elementary School for the 2013-14 school year are invited to attend kindergarten orientation at the school Thursday, May 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Spring Craft show planned

A spring craft show is under way at Valley Mall. The show is presented by Alpha Productions. Vendors will be set up throughout the mall through Sunday.

Carnival fundraiser

A carnival fundraiser will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 17630 Virginia Ave., to raise money to send a Springfield Middle School team to the Destination Imagination Globals in Knoxville, Tenn.

The competition is set for May 21 to 25.

Proceeds from the carnival will help the Springfield Middle School Flyinging NutJobs team make the trip.

The event will include games, prizes and food.
