Edward Francis Hood, 75, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Meritus Medical Center.

Born Thursday, Dec. 16, 1937, in Westminster, Md., he was the son of the late George Francis Hood and the late Eva Pauline (Stitley) Hood Bankard.

He was employed with Burroughs Corporation (Unysis) for 32 years and then owned and operated Market Lot Liquors for 27 years. He was in the Maryland National Guard in the 29th Division, 110 Field Artillery. He was a member of the Region 29th Division Assn. Inc., Jerome L. Day Post 48, also served in the Army Reserve, Hagerstown, North American Rod and Gun Club, American Legion Post 212 and the Maugansville Historic Society. Ed loved to travel and take cruises, he especially enjoyed time spent in Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joanne Couzens Hood; daughters, Tanya Starr and husband, Travis, of Williamsport, Md., and Tricia Strite and husband, Warren, of Clear Spring, Md.; and son, Edward F. Hood II of Hagerstown.

He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Russell Bankard.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Services will be held Friday, April 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Dr. Renee Mackey officiating.

Interment will be at the Westminster Cemetery, Westminster, Md., at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the Washington County Humane Society, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
