Edward Francis Hood, 75, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Thursday, Dec. 16, 1937, in Westminster, Md., he was the son of the late George Francis Hood and the late Eva Pauline (Stitley) Hood Bankard.

He was employed by Burroughs Corporation (Unysis) for 32 years, then owned and operated Market Lot Liquors for 27 years.

He was in the Maryland National Guard in the 29th Division, 110th Field Artillery.

He was a member of the Region 29th Division Association Inc., Jerome L. Day Post 48, North American Rod and Gun Club, American Legion Post 212 and Maugansville Historic Society. He also served in the Army Reserve in Hagerstown.

Ed loved to travel and take cruises. He especially enjoyed time spent in Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joanne Couzens Hood; daughters, Tanya Starr and husband, Travis, of Williamsport, Md., and Tricia Strite and husband, Warren, of Clear Spring, Md.; and son, Edward F. Hood II of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Russell Bankard.

Services will be Friday, April 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Dr. Renee Mackey officiating. Interment will be Thursday, April 25, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. at Westminster Cemetery, Westminster.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
