Martinsburg hospital celebrates National Volunteer Week

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — City Hospital, a West Virginia University Hospitals-East facility, recognized its 140 auxilians, volunteers and chaplains by hosting an appreciation luncheon on Monday at the Holiday Inn.

The event was in recognition of National Volunteer Week, which is April 21-27.

Members of the City Hospital auxiliary were celebrated for their 2012 fundraising efforts which resulted in $10,000 being donated to patient care services at the hospital. Thirteen volunteer clergy were recognized for their efforts on behalf of the hospital’s chaplaincy program. Eighty-nine City Hospital volunteers fulfilling 20 different roles were honored for donating 186,177 cumulative hours of service to the hospital, including 18,298 in 2012.

On behalf of the WVUH-East City Hospital, Chief Administrative Officer Anthony Zelenka and Board Chairman Robert Baronner expressed appreciation for the efforts of all three groups and thanked them for their dedication and loyal service to City Hospital and the WVUH-East health system.
