BOONSBORO — North Hagerstown’s baseball team continued its undefeated season on Monday, collecting 11 hits against Boonsboro en route to a 12-1 MVAL Antietam victory.

The Hubs (11-0, 7-0) wasted no time, as Mark Grunberg smacked a leadoff homer to left in the top of the first inning. After an RBI groundout by Andrew Yacyk, Austin Stone homered for a quick 3-0 lead.

Troy Carbaugh made it 4-0 in the third inning with North’s third homer of the game.

“Our approach at the plate was great today,” said North coach Drew Crawford. “We were aggressive early in the count and when we got a pitch to hit, we didn’t miss many of them.”

North’s biggest inning was the fifth, as the Hubs added five runs to increase their lead to 9-0. Carbaugh singled, Zane Schreiber doubled and Dylan Wagner was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Hunter Williams walked to score Carbaugh and Grunberg walked to score Wagner, before Matt Daley smacked a two-run single to center. Yacyk followed with an RBI single.

Boonsboro (5-7, 1-7) avoided the shutout by scoring in the top of the fifth inning, when Brad Enfield singled to score Chad Cowden.

“We got beat by a very well-coached, very good team. We’re a couple years away from that,” said Boonsboro coach Ronnie Stewart. “I thought we played decent, we just got beat by a better team.”

The Hubs added their final three runs in the seventh inning on an RBI groundout by Timmy Hartsock and a two-run double by Stone that scored Yacyk and Josh Barron.

“The thing about our team is the depth we showcase. We have a bunch of guys who can start,” said Crawford. “It speaks to the guys that come off the bench to contribute. They’re always ready to go.”

Yacyk got the win for North on the mound, pitching five innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. Carbaugh and Cole Conrad combined for two innings of scoreless relief.

“That’s the deepest Yacyk had gone in a game so far. That’s huge for us to save some of our bullpen arms,” said Crawford.
