Two people arrested after gas stolen on Maugansville Road

April 21, 2013

Two people were arrested after about 10 gallons of gas were stolen Friday from lawn-mowing tractors at Jim’s Small Engine Repair at 14623 Maugansville Road, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The owner of the business walked around his property and noticed gas-siphoning equipment and four gas cans near some tractors, police said.

Deputies responded to the business and observed a Ford Ranger pickup truck leaving the area, police said. Yellow plastic tubing, the same type found at the business, was visible in the truck, police said.

A deputy stopped the truck at 18434 block of Maugansville Road and determined that the driver was a juvenile, police said. Deputies also noticed two other individuals walking behind the truck.

Those two individuals were arrested, and the juvenile was released to his parents, police said.

Names of the two people arrested are not being given because a news release from the sheriff’s office did not give ages, addresses or charges against them.
